The Chökyi Gyatso Translation Committee translates scholarly material from German and French into English. We are committed to deep work in traditional areas of both study and practice.

Inspired by a visionary comment by the late Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche that it would be good if Gampo Abbey would be involved in publishing Buddhist texts, the members of the Chökyi Gyatso Translation Committee first found their footing by publishing, for many years, The Profound Path of Peace, the magazine of the International Kagyü Sangha Association of Buddhist Monks and Nuns.

After completing the traditional three-year retreat, and with the establishment of Nitartha Institute and then later the Vidyadhara Institute, the focus first shifted toward the writing of practice manuals related to Vajrayana rituals and then to the translation of scholarly material rooted in the tradition of Western Buddhist scholarship. Important connections with leading Buddhist scholars were established and, from then on, we became involved with scholarly outreach work, beyond monasticism.
