Festival of Vaishakha: commemoration of Buddha’s birth, enlightenment and death

Hosted by KCCL on June 11, starting at 11am AT

The festival of Vaishakha or Saga Dawa Düchen is one of the four major Buddhist holidays, commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha Shakyamuni. It occurs on the full moon (the 15th day) of the fourth Tibetan lunar month (= saga dawa).

This year, Kccl will celebrate Vaishakha day in three parts:
.
  1. Since Tibetans traditionally practice “The Prostration Offering to the Sthaviras” by Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo on Vaishakha day, we will follow that tradition, starting at 11am, on June 11, which will be followed by a small lunch including a few readings. If you intend to join us, please feel free to bring some food offering if you so wish.
  2. In the afternoon, starting at 5pm, we will commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the parinirvana of Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche by practicing “Invoking Compassion Swiftly—A Guru Yoga for Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche”, composed by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, which will be preceded by a slideshow of the life of Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. Here is the URL for joining the events: Second Anniversary of Thrangu Rinpoche’s Parinirvana
  3. The third part will be a hybrid talk given by Tenzin Wangden entitled “Lucid Dreaming and Dream Yoga” and it will take place in our Mahasangha shrine room on June 10, starting at 7pm. If you so wish, you could call it a “Vaishakha Eve” event. For more information on this event, see: https://www.kccl.ca/event/hybrid-lucid-dreaming-and-dream-yoga/

So let’s go and celebrate!
