Khenpo Tenkyong’s visit to Halifax, giving three talks on August 18 and 19

We are delighted to announce that Khenpo Karma Tenkyong is visiting Halifax in mid August.

Khenpo began his monastic training at a young age. In 2002, he completed the 11-year program in Buddhist Philosophy at Karma Shri Nalanda Institute in Rumtek, Sikkim, earning the degree of Acharya, and was appointed Khenpo by HH the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa. From 2003 to 2014, Khenpo worked in His Holiness Karmapa’s administration, and in 2014 Khenpo was sent to the Karmapa’s main monastery in North America, Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) in Woodstock, New York, where he served as president of KTD and resident teacher from 2015 to 2018, and serves as resident teacher of KTD and its centers, offering teachings and guidance to their centers, from 2018 until now.

Khenpo has agreed to give three talks on August 18 and 19:

1) Shamatha-Mindfulness Practice in the Mahamudra Tradition

Friday, August 18, starting at 7:00pm (AT)

There are many forms of shamatha and many forms of mindfulness. This talk will present the shamatha-mindfulness practice from the point of view of the Mahamudra tradition.

Location: KCCL. Open to everyone. This event is “in person only”.

2) Lojong talk: Absolute Bodhicitta slogans

Saturday, August 19, starting at 10am AT

This step by step presentation of the absolute bodhicitta slogans are a very skilful way of striking at the essence of all true Mahayana and Mahamudra practice. It is therefore important to request teachings on these slogans again and again.

Location: KCCL. Open to everyone. This event is “in person only”.

3) Outer, Inner and Secret Guru Principle.

Saturday August 19, starting at 7:00pm AT

In the Vajrayana, we take refuge into the three roots: guru, yidam and protectors. This talk is geared towards clarifying and deepening our understanding of the guru principle, which traditionally can be divided into the outer, inner and secret guru.

Location: Halifax Shambhala Centre (HSC). Open only to ngöndro students and sadhakas. This event is a hybrid event: “in person” and “online”.
